3.1 ADVERTISING3.2 IDENT 1 - NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS, designed around the visual language of Windows XP and the chaotic nature of the early 2000s internet pop-up ads. With my channel name ‘Dazed’, influenced by the 1993 film ‘Dazed and Confused’, I explored the theme of confusion by flooding the screen with overlapping windows, creating a nostalgic feeling. The result captures the digital style of the era
3.3 IDENT 2 - TOP OF THE POPS, expanding on the technology inspired aesthetic established in the first ident. Here, ASCII typography is used to spell out DAZED using custom letterforms to overlay a clip of The Smiths performing on Top of The Pops and a 3D rotating title created on After Effects.
3.4 IDENT 3 - THE WORD, exploring a hand-made, mixed media animation to contrast the very digital style of the previous idents. Using paint markers and coloured pencils, it filled the stop-motion sequence with texture and personality while maintaining the nostalgic identity.
For this brief, the task was to design a TV channel directed at the target audience of 18-30 year olds. This project was created to instil nostalgia into the top bracket of the target audience, but also educate the lower half. From this information alone, I created the channel ‘Dazed’. This channel centres around reruns of old music shows such as ‘Top of the Pops’ and ‘The Word’.
The brand identity was inspired by an ‘ironic iconic’ theme, utilising assets like the old Windows XP background, CRTV effects, and bright colours.
